Man dies while being handcuffed Hampton Police are investigating how a man died as officers tried to put him in handcuffs on the morning of Tuesday, June 18. According to Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division, officers received a call around 9 a.m. for a suspicious person in the 300 block of Grant Circle. When they arrived, they found a man who officers claim was disorderly and combative. According to the police, the officers believed the man to be suffering from a medical condition and they tried to place him in emergency custody. When the man resisted he was placed in handcuffs and suddenly stopped breathing. The officers then began to preform CPR. When medics arrived, the man was transported to a nearby hospital only to be pronounced dead. His identity has not been...

Debates continue over NSA scandal In light of the recent NSA scandal, a new story has surfaced about how the NSA’s records helped prevent a subway bombing in 2009, according to a U.S. intelligence official. While many are upset that the NSA has the capability to track and listen in on phone conversations and read text messages, seeing it as a violation of privacy, supporters say that they only use this technology in an effort to prevent terrorist attacks. Tropical Storm Andrea moves toward Hampton Roads The Coast Guard advises boaters to stay off the water as Tropical Storm Andrea heads to Hampton Roads. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for this area, and the forecast calls for parts of Virginia to be drenched by up to 4 inches of rain and winds at 40 mps. Tropical Storm Andrea wasn’t expected to strengthen into a hurricane, but forecasters warned it could cause isolated flooding and storm surge before it loses steam. Tropical Storm Andrea cancels Parade of Sail With the threat of the season’s first tropical storm, Festevents announced this afternoon that the Parade of Sail scheduled for Friday at noon has been canceled. Some 200,000 people are expected to attend over the weekend, and all events are being shifted. All ships that were scheduled to be open to the public on Saturday will open at noon.
