Homearama came to an abrupt end due to Superstorm Sandy, but not before an incredible two weeks' worth of events took place at the most happening house at East Beach: The Coastal Idea House by Stephen Alexander Homes & Neighborhoods. Below, you can find a recap of some of our most successful events from this Homearama. Thanks to all those who stopped be--we look forward to seeing you in the spring!
October 15 - HRM's Culinary Tasting Night with Bardo Edibles + Elixirs with Chef Edward Storey, sponsored by Greenwich Kitchen Center, Inc.
On Tidewater Builders Association's Military Appreciation night, Chef Edward Storey kicked off our two weeks of free culinary events at the home and served up a delicious carrot casserole.
October 16 - HRM's Culinary Tasting Night with Swan Terrace at the Founders Inn & Spa with Chef Scott Simpson
In true Virginia fashion, Chef Scott Simpson of The Founders Inn and Spa served up Virginia Berkshire Porchetta sandwiches.
October 17 - HRM's Wine Tasting Night with Mermaid Winery
Jennifer Eichert Doumar of Mermaid Winery, Norfolk's first urban winery, served up wonderful Virginia Wine.
October 18 - HRM's Culinary Tasting Night with Ruth's Chris Steak House with Chef Rick Overbey, sponsored by Closet Factory
Chef Rick Overbey of Ruth's Chris Steak House Virginia Beach provided Shrimp Cocktail with House Cocktail Sauce and Chicken Salad with Fig/Balsamic Reduction to all house visitors.
October 22 - A Taste Of Norfolk
HRM hosted A Taste of Norfolk with 905 Cafe, Baker's Crust, Bardo Edibles + Elixirs, Bite Restaurant, Carolina Cupcakery, Hubcap Grill, La Bella in Ghent, Lizard Cafe at Prince Books, Rajput Indian Cuisine, Veneziano.
Though the competition was fierce (and fantastic), Lizard Cafe ultimately took both Critics' Choice and People's Choice for best dish of the night with a spicy shrimp and grits and brownie bite for dessert.
October 23 - Gifts From The Kitchen (fall & winter themed) with HRM's food editor, Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton
Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton taught visitors how to make fuss-free, and budget-friendly gifts, including bay seasoned nutty cereal mix, marvelous mulling spices, cranberry-walnut granola and Mama Mia! Parmesan Bagel Chips.
October 25 - HRM's Roundtable with HRM's food editor, Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton/Coffee & Chocolate Tasting
The Royal Chocolate (Virginia Beach Town Center) and Cafe Stella (Ghent, Norfolk) provided a sweet end to our schedule of events at the Coastal Idea House.
