Rock the Boat
Part two of your comprehensive guide to getting on the water and making waves.
By Jessica Carlson
By now, you've recovered from the season's first sunburn. You've scalded yourself at least five times on the scorching metal of your seat belt. And you've completely given up on your hair until October.
Welcome to mid-summer. Is it getting to you yet? Are you wondering how on earth the word "hot" ever came to mean the same thing as "cool"?
Regain your sanity—and temperature—by getting out on the water. Leave the sizzling sand behind and enjoy the cool breezes and refreshing mists only experienced at sea.
In our last issue, we began our two-part Rock The Boat Guide to boating in Hampton Roads. Part one explored different types of boats, offered advice on buying your own, gave other options besides owning, listed the cheapest ways to get on the water, and included a chart of local marinas.
In part two of the guide, you'll find out how to keep safe at sea, learn why our region puts smiles on the faces of anglers, and begin to chart your course to some sensational ports of call. Also, be sure to use our helpful map to pick out local getaways by sea.
So escape the heat and rock the boat. You can thank us after you cool down.
